Details

This jorongo or full length Mexican poncho is made in Hueyapan, Puebla. The sheep's wool becomes a textile through the use of the back strap loom, an ancient portable tool that embraces the weaver's waist. The colors are natural grey and green. First they used pericon  ( Tagetes lucida ) obtained from a plant that produces a yellow dye. After the yellow dye they used indigo ( indigofera tinctoria ) to obtain the desired green color.
