This unique method of weaving begins with a plant fibre known as Ixtle which is obtained from Soyalo, a community in Chiapas. The pieces begin as a sort of knot made with this Ixtle plant fiber on a clay pot.
The clay pot determines the size of the piece and the Ixtle is knotted in a circular weave. The finished piece can be dyed in the black Chamua style which involves dying the knot with mud, but also can be dyed with any other natural dye.
These textiles display a specialized craft which can be applied to your very own designs.
