Details

This jorongo or full length Mexican poncho is made in the municipality of Santo Tomas Ocotepec in Oaxaca. The hand spun sheep wool becomes a textile through the use of the back strap loom, an ancient portable tool that embraces the weaver's waist. The colours are natural white and indigo or natural white and cochineal, a parasite that lives in the cacti and is extracted since ancient times for its value as currency and sacred colour.
