Details

This shawl known in Mexico as a rebozo was hand woven by a Purepecha weaver from Ahuirán, Michoacán using the ancient technique of a back-strap loom. The loom can be easily transported ans allows the weaver the freedom to weave wherever she wants: watching over sheep under the shade of a tree, beside her kitchen while the soup is simmering away or watching her children play in the patio or her home. The loom is fastened between a weaver's waist and a tree or pole.
This rebozo is a one of a kind piece and made from a combination of cotton and silk floss threads. For this reason, there is a slight striped shimmer to the fabric's surface. A rooster's feathers have been carefully fastened into the macramé fringe known as a 'repacejo'.
