Born in Rome and trained in classical studies and in the restauration of ancient art, Maddalena Forcella has made Mexico her home since 1986. In Mexico, she has focused on the practice of natural dyes and on textile design, living and studying with indigenous communities in Chiapas and Oaxaca. She has been invited to the most important textile art forums such as the "Hangzhou Triennial of Fiber Art" in Hangzhou, China in 2016 and the "International Triennial of Tapestry" in Lodz, Poland in 2013. "Poetic samples" are part of an exhibition inaugurated in 2014 at the Textile Museum of Oaxaca; they are currently traveling through different venues in Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan.
Maddalena: "Using small pieces of cloth collected over the years in my textile work, I like to combine, assemble, and sew together multiple elements to create something new: an intimate space in which different shapes, with their own mass and weight, sustain a delicate equilibrium. In each, there is a balance that is restful, meditative, like a peaceful silence".
