TUNIC IN WHITE & PURPLE
€ 1.500,00
Details

This three-panel huipil or loose fitting Mexican tunic is made in Xochistlahuaca Guerrero using home grown cotton to make a gauze in the back strap loom, an ancient portable tool. This heavily adorned piece has intricate brocade in coyuchi (Gossypium mexicanum), brown grown cotton, and caracol purpura pansa (Plicopurpura Pansa), a pink natural dye that is extracted from a living mollusk without harming it by Murex dyers who have done this for generations.

The narrative of this textile follows the legacy of many generations as shown by the pre-Columbian codices that illustrate the same designs that we see today, mostly the triangles which represent butterflies and other geometric figures that represent roads as well as other animals and plants of the region.
One size. Dry clean only.
