Brigitte Picavet works with a wide variety of materials, including textiles and waste material. Seemingly opposite phenomena, such as beauty and decay, order and chaos, abstraction and figuration, and more recently stillness and movement have her attention. She combines these so-called opposites, thus placing them in a new perspective.
The past five years she has been working on a series of paintings called Heavy flowers. Picavet produces her own paint, a mixture of glue, pigments, all sorts of flakes of textiles and plastics, and even dust, ashes and grease and frequently incorporates (pieces of) existing objects in her work. Other interests are nature, the senses, philosophy, music and craftsmanship.
